E N F I L A D E "Le Château de Vaux-le-Vicomte is a baroque French château, southeast of Paris, now owned by the de Vogüés family. Built between 1658 to 1661 for Nicolas Fouquet, the superintendent of finances of Louis XIV. The château was an influential work of architecture in mid-17th-century Europe. The architect Louis Le Vau, the landscape architect André le Nôtre, and the painter-decorator Charles Le Brun worked together on this large-scale project. Their collaboration marked the beginning of the "Louis XIV style" copy and 📷️ via @alidad_ltd⁠

"L O V E L Y bedroom by late American designer Henry Davis Sleeper (1878-1934).⁠
One might think of such a room to be so complicated to decorate, but when you use the architecture to be part of your design, it can create such little magical places…⁠
⁠
Sleeper used his creative flair by cutting the Zuber & Cie paper to cover the many angles in the bedroom. Where there were voids, he cut out birds and foliage from elsewhere in the pattern to fill in the space. With a Chinoiserie paper inspired by 18th century motifs, he ended up with a lush and jungle-like effect… I really like it.⁠

The Arts and Crafts house was Henry Davis Sleeper’s summer retreat in Massachusetts, and is now preserved as a museum by Historic New England. P E E K I N G into a country house Christmas…⁠

📍"Estelle Manor, once known as Eynsham Hall, is a luxury country hotel and private members club set on 60 acres of English countryside in Oxfordshire, at the steps of The Cotswolds. Built in 1908 as a neo-Jacobean pleasure palace by Tory MP James Francis Bacon, the property was purchased in 2018 by Ennismore baron, Sharan Pasricha and his wife, Eiesha, and the duo refashioned the property back to its roots of a grand country house.⁠
⁠
The estate is a Grade II listed building surrounded by 3,000 acres of beautiful parkland and gardens and features a 25-meter pool modeled in the French Riviera style with sunbeds, umbrellas and topiaries lining the pool edge. Croquet lawns, wildflower fields and 500-year old trees are additional little jewels throughout the landscape. Inside, 108 rooms await, each furnished with vintage pieces such as chinoiserie armoires, and 4 restaurants including The Glasshouse, a lush greenhouse setting featuring wood-fires dishes. ⁠
