"Frederick’s Royal Stage.... The King’s apartment in the New Palace in Potsdam is more than just a lavish residence – it’s a stage, a display of power, and a carefully crafted self-portrait. Directly after the Seven Years’ War, Frederick the Great had this palace built to demonstrate strength and resilience.

This is where he received his guests – on his stage. A truly fascinating site of Prussian history" via @palace.reflections and @eyuepensar.graphy

"St Conan’s Kirk in S C O T L A N D located in t "St Conan’s Kirk in S C O T L A N D located in the village of Lochawe, Argyll and Bute.

St Conan’s Kirk was originally built and designed by Walter Campbell in the 1880s. After purchasing and moving to the Island of Innis Chonain, Campbell decided to build a church in a more convenient location, given that the nearest one was at Dalmally, a long journey for his elderly mother.

St Conan’s made up for its young age by incorporating historic materials into the fabric of the building. Stonework was recycled from the old church at Inchinnan, ornate windows were brought from both the holy island of Iona and South Leith Parish Church. Great granite boulders were collected from nearby Ben Cruachan and oak beams were even included from two salvaged Royal Navy warships.

To add to St Conan’s embracement of history, a chapel containing an effigy of King Robert the Bruce was included in the design. A fragment of the King’s boneis kept alongside the carving as if this was a medieval cathedral and the monarch was a saint. The chapel commemorates the Battle of the Pass of Brander that took place just a few miles away.

Walter worked St Conan’s until his death in 1914, and his sister Helen ran the project from 1918 until her death in 1927. The church was then completed by their trustees. All the stone used to build St Conan’s came from boulders on nearby hillsides that were rolled to the site before being worked.

St Conan’s Kirk was first used for worship in 1930, and is unique for not conforming to any particular style of church architecture. Highlights include the Norman doorway, the Gothic flying buttresses, a Celtic cross,
the Arts and Crafts carvings, the Saxon tower and even a Stone circle"

Rising in elegant curves on an oval floor plan, two staircases lead upward, offering a view down into the grotto and culminating in a magnificent domed hall. Light pours in from the sides and above – a stunning interplay of movement, light, and space.

Grotto, staircase, and domed hall form a harmonious unit that is truly one of a kind.

Starting in 1728, Balthasar Neumann took over the construction management and in 1731 transformed the original design into one of the most ingenious staircases of the Baroque period. With a keen sense of space and proportion, he created an architectural icon that has made Bruchsal Palace famous far beyond the region".

"Charlottenburg P A L A C E reimagined by Frederic "Charlottenburg P A L A C E reimagined by Frederick the Great

Between 1740 and 1760, King Frederick II of Prussia—better known as Frederick the Great—transformed the New Wing of Charlottenburg Palace into his personal residence. Inspired by French Rococo, he enlisted leading artists and architects such as Georg Wenzeslaus von Knobelsdorff, Johann August Nahl, and Johann Michael Graff to redesign the interiors in a refined and contemporary style.

Among these rooms is the Versilberte Kammer (Silver Room), located immediately before the king’s private library. Decorated with silvered stucco, white paneling, and upholstered furnishings in red velvet, the room features original 18th-century elements including a pendulum clock, a red canapé and matching fauteuils, as well as wall mirrors integrated into the boiserie—all in the characteristic Federician Rococo.

Its position suggests a role as a reception or waiting room, likely reserved for select visitors. We must not forget that it precedes one of the most restricted spaces of the royal apartment—the library, which only a few had access to. It is therefore plausible that individuals granted a royal audience would have remained here while awaiting the king.

During the war, the ceiling was largely destroyed, but the stucco walls, chimneypiece, and parts of the cornice survived. The 1951–52 restoration, led by the Berlin palace administration, relied on surviving fragments, archival photographs, and existing plans. The reconstruction of the decorative ceiling was based on comparisons with similar rooms in Sanssouci and Potsdam.

The present furnishing follows the documented mid-18th-century arrangement, reflecting Frederick’s preference for unified, symmetrical compositions and limited color palettes in private rooms.
