Mid-century Val Saint Lambert chartreuse crystal centrepiece or fruit bowl, designed by René Delvenne in the 1950s–60s. This striking sculptural piece is exceptionally heavy at 5.7 kg and remains in great condition, with the maker’s signature engraved to the base. Light wear consistent with age and use. Delvenne was a prominent designer for the Belgian crystal manufacturer Val Saint Lambert from 1958 to 1967. His mid-century modern work is known for thick crystal, vibrant colours such as cranberry and fuchsia, and organic sculptural forms created using techniques like sommerso and doubling. Delvenne designed several notable pieces, including the Vatel, Medusa, Torsade, and Splash series. His work often features flowing shapes, twisted sides, relief edges, and high-lead crystal. During his time at Val Saint Lambert he also worked alongside designer Charles Graffart. Today, Delvenne’s colourful layered crystal designs are highly collectible and valued for their bold mid-century aesthetic and exceptional craftsmanship.
