A beautiful and rare Italian Madonna figure signed by Paolo Marioni of Florence. This striking mid-century piece is crafted in polychrome and gilt ceramic/terracotta, richly hand-painted and highlighted with generous gold detailing. The sculpture represents the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, shown rising heavenward with flowing drapery, accompanied by cherubs (putti) gathered at her feet and within the folds of her cloak. The composition has a strong sense of movement and grace, typical of Florentine religious art of the period. Marioni’s work reflects the influence of the celebrated Italian sculptor Professor Eugenio Pattarino (1885–1971), whose studio tradition was known for expressive devotional figures and refined craftsmanship. Created in Florence, Italy, likely during the 1950s–1960s, this piece stands out for its fine modelling, delicate facial features, and luminous hand-applied gilding. A wonderfully detailed and decorative devotional sculpture, and a fine example of mid-20th-century Florentine ceramic artistry.
