A rare antique sulphide paperweight from France around 1900-1920. Inside is a sulphide picture of a hand holding flowers about the inscription SOUVENIR, surrounded by a wreath of coloured glass. The name sulphide comes from the use of sulphur in the early manufacturing of these artistic gems in the late 19th century. The sulphide within is usually made from a glass paste and/or clay (ceramic) material that is completely encased within the glass. Most paperweights have inclusions in the glass which is quite common. A wonderful decorative accent for your desk or coffee table. Sulphide pieces are very rare and popular among collectors. $450.00
