An elegant French Louis XVI Revival mahogany and satinwood inlaid commode, dating from the early 20th century (c.1900-1930), that has been professionally converted into a sophisticated drinks cabinet. Thoughtfully executed, the conversion preserves the refined character and classical proportions of the original piece while introducing practical modern functionality. The cabinet retains its original black and white veined marble top above a frieze fitted with three drawers, each adorned with brass ring pulls and decorative ormolu escutcheons. Opening the drop-front reveals a beautifully fitted mirror interior with a thick glass shelf, creating the perfect display for glassware, fine spirits, and bar accessories. Characteristic of the Louis XVI Revival style, the commode features elegant straight fluted legs, finely detailed satinwood stringing and marquetry, restrained brass mounts, and tapering square legs. The original marble top provides an ideal serving surface for drinks or for displaying sculpture and decorative objects. A beautifully crafted and highly functional piece, this converted commode is equally at home in traditional, contemporary, or eclectic interiors. The internal bar lighting has been re done to NZ standards. Condition commensurate with age with the marble, glass and mirror have some wear and nibbles.
