Collection of Napoleon III French glass domes
A large collection of various sized Napoleon III ebonised wood and hand blown glass domes, called Globe de Mariée. Originally these Globes would have contained and preserved a display of wedding souvenirs (the tradition started in the 1800’s). Placed prominently in the formal dining room (much like a photo), it held the Bride’s Crown, or Bridal Tiara made from fresh or wax Orange Blossoms, and at times her Wax or silk Floral Bouquet. Silk flowers became all the rage in the 1860’s onwards. You could purchase the globes empty and then you could buy the display pieces separately to build your own story.
These globes are now very popular to hold collections such as taxidermy or anything you wish to display and protect in a dome. The glass is hand blown and is very fragile so getting them all here in one piece was a feat in itself. The larger ones are very hard to find.
As there are so many globes to choose from please enquire regarding prices as they range dependent on size (starting from $460.00).
