A late 19th century icon of the Black Madonna of Częstochowa, Poland – a revered depiction of the Virgin Mary holding the infant Jesus. This sacred image is famed for the two prominent scars on the Virgin’s right cheek, believed to have been inflicted during a 15th-century Hussite attack on the Jasna Góra Monastery. Traditionally adorned with jeweled crowns and richly decorated robes, the icon symbolizes protection and resilience. This particular rendition is hand-painted on a bevelled mirror plate, embellished with gilding and applied diamantés. It is presented in an ebonised and paint-gilded frame, with a hanging hook to the rear.
