“Ruelle de Provence” is a signed oil on panel by Simon Van Gelderen (1905–1986), a Belgian artist celebrated for his evocative, impressionistic style. Born in Brussels, Van Gelderen studied at both the Academy of Fine Arts in Brussels and the Saint-Luc Academy. His body of work includes atmospheric still lifes, landscapes, and interior scenes. This work, “Ruelle de Provence”, reflects Van Gelderen’s talent for capturing the quiet charm of everyday settings. The painting is set in a Montparnasse frame, named after from the Parisian district where it was born)t the beginning of the 20th century where it became the new centre of Parisian artistic life. The new impressionistic painting, was unlike the structured academic painting of the time and the softer hand carved frames were created  to better complement their works. The frames themselves are now very highly prized.
