This Victorian loving cup was crafted around the Torquay area in southern England. Made from red clay, it is covered with a blue slip, with the motto carefully scratched through to reveal the clay beneath—a technique known as sgraffito. The reverse features a decorative motif painted in coloured slip. The engraved motto reads: “Be Aisy. If ye cant be aisy, Be as aisy as ye can. 1821.” The piece is in very good condition and showcases the charm and craftsmanship typical of early 19th-century Torquay pottery.
