$345.00
A charming pair of late Victorian to Edwardian mother-of-pearl opera glasses (circa 1890–1910) with their original fitted leather case, beautifully crafted with shimmering mother-of-pearl barrels mounted in brass. The eyepieces are finished with white enamel rims, and the central focusing wheel operates smoothly, making these an elegant example of Edwardian theatre accessories. The opera glasses are housed in their original fitted black leather case with a rich crimson silk-lined lid and velvet-lined interior, complete with brass clasp. Originally used for opera, theatre, horse racing and other social occasions, these binoculars are now highly sought after as decorative objects, or collector’s pieces. The mother-of-pearl retains a beautiful iridescent lustre, the brass has developed a mellow patina, and the original leather case remains sound with an attractive aged appearance. The optics are clear for an antique example, and the focusing mechanism operates as intended. There is one round piece of MOP missng on an eye piece (and they have been priced accordingly).
