This is a beautifully crafted piece of English flame mahogany furniture from the 1860s, showcasing both elegance and quality. The top features a classic dentil-moulded cornice above two glazed doors, which open to reveal a bookcase or display area with three adjustable shelves. Most of the glass is original and handmade, with just two panes replaced over time.
The left door still retains its original brass flush bolt locks, while the right door comes with a working lock and key. Below, the secretaire section pulls out to reveal a finely fitted interior highlighted by nine satinwood drawers, a central small cupboard, and four pigeonholes, some of which cleverly conceal hidden compartments. The drawers and cupboard door are finished with ivory handles.
Beneath the secretaire is a chest of four full-length, oak-lined drawers, built with finely hand-cut dovetails. While the drawer handles have been replaced, they are period-appropriate and blend well with the overall character. Please note that the bottom drawers no longer have a key.
