$5,750.00
A monumental French oak and opaline public clock dial by Danne of Rouen, dating to the late 19th century (circa 1880–1900). This French station or tower clock face dating to around 1880, originated from the historic city of Rouen. This impressive architectural piece features a solid quarter-sawn oak surround enclosing the original opaline glass dial, divided into individual glazed panels with bold hand-painted Roman numerals and traditional minute markers. The centre is marked “Rouen” and “Darnier”, retaining its original oversized black steel hands, which add to its dramatic presence. The weathered oak frame and aged metal glazing bars display a beautiful, untouched patina acquired over more than a century, making this a wonderful decorative statement piece (the clock is not in working order). Originally mounted in a public building, church, railway station or civic clock tower, this substantial dial has been carefully preserved and now serves as an exceptional piece of French industrial and architectural history. Its generous scale makes it ideal as a feature wall piece in both traditional and contemporary interiors. A custom hanging bar is included in the price.
