An English antique oak cased three decanter tantalus and games box c.1870 – 1880 with decorative cut brass gothic revival mounts and carry handles to the sides. This tantalus features three glass hobnail cut square decanters with faceted ball stoppers and a bevelled mirrored back. The twin flap compartment in front opens to reveal fitted sections for games such as chess pieces. There is a secret compartment in the base, which can be opened by pressing the secret button in front of the central decanter, which would have been used to store playing cards, and likely a cribbage board with score markers and dice. The lock is in working condition and has a key. This would make a wonderful gift as the brass cartouche is blank so it could be engraved to suit the recipients initials. (The are some chips to the collars and stoppers of the decanters commensurate with age and use). The back plate has shrunk over time so there is a small space showing.
