A single large 19th century white Staffordshire spaniel figurine, commonly known as a “Wally dug” in Scotland. These dogs were made in the pottery towns of Staffordshire, England between 1830 – 1900.These earthenware figures feature a press-moulded body, hand-painted details, and were originally made as facing pairs to be displayed on mantelpieces. Significantly, they were modelled after King Charles Spaniels, and they quickly became a staple of Victorian-era English home decor. It has some wear and paint marks commensurate with age.
