19th century gilt brass church bible stand
A late 19th century gilt brass adjustable bible stand displaying a central enamel cartouche of a lamb. In Christianity, the lamb represents Christ as both suffering and triumphant; it is typically a sacrificial animal, and may also symbolize gentleness, innocence, and purity. The solid brass plate on which a bible can be displayed shows a hand-engraved cross. The stand is raised on lion paw feet.
