📍"Vizcaya Museum and Gardens, Miami, Florida… Perched at the edge of Biscayne Bay sits the one-time winter home and Gilded Age gem of industrialist and socialite James Deering… Built in the early 20th century, the landscape and architecture were influenced by Veneto and Tuscan Renaissance styles and designed in the Mediterranean Revival architectural style, along with some Baroque elements…⁠

The historic villa contains 70 rooms filled with fine decorative art, furnishings and antiques sourced by Deering on his European travels… Fun fact: Deering purchased some ceramics which were to be shipped back to the US on the Titanic however they never made it; fortunately he took out an insurance policy on the pieces and was able to have them replaced…⁠

The site was, in 2008, designated by the National Trust for Historic Preservation as one of America’s Eleven Most Endangered Sites due to the threat of encroaching high-rise condo development; since then, thankfully, development has been blocked and Vizcaya is now in its own zoning code to ensure future protection"… @vizcaya_museum⁠

"Wilanów P A L A C E is sometimes referred to as

"Wilanów P A L A C E is sometimes referred to as the “Polish Versailles”, but the early Baroque palace is anything but a random copy of Versailles.

📍 Its location at the end of the Warsaw Royal Route alone makes the palace part of an extraordinary ensemble. The Royal Route begins at the Royal Castle in Warsaw and forms a 10-kilometre-long axis along whose magnificent streets, important palaces and large churches line up like a string of pearls.

After the devastating destruction of the Second World War, large sections of the Royal Route have been restored to their historical appearance.

The palace complex was built between 1677 and 1679 according to plans by Augustyn Wincenty Locci. Although the front of the palace is formally modelled on Versailles, all in all, Wilanów corresponds above all to the ideal type of Roman Baroque villa, which is also reflected in the name Wilanów, which is nothing other than the Polonised “Villa Nova”. Locci certainly created one of the most charming early Baroque palace complexes in the whole of Central Europe here.

The palace in Wilanów was once built for the great Polish King John III Sobieski. Sobieski is considered the “saviour of Vienna”. In 1683, in the Battle of Kahlenberg, Jan Sobieski, in command of around 27,000 royal Polish, 19,000 imperial, 10,500 Bavarian, 9,000 Saxon and 9,500 south-west German soldiers, crushed the Ottoman army under Grand Vizier Kara Mustafa. This put an end to the Turkish advance into northern Europe.

After Sobieski, the palace was inhabited by Augustus the Strong, among others. Augustus had several rooms remodelled, including a stunning lacquer cabinet created by the famous Martin Schnell. It was not least in Wilanów that Augustus celebrated his record-breaking parties, for which he was known far beyond Saxony-Poland-Lithuania" 📷️ and copy via @versailles_everywhere
