📍"Vizcaya Museum and Gardens, Miami, Florida… Perched at the edge of Biscayne Bay sits the one-time winter home and Gilded Age gem of industrialist and socialite James Deering… Built in the early 20th century, the landscape and architecture were influenced by Veneto and Tuscan Renaissance styles and designed in the Mediterranean Revival architectural style, along with some Baroque elements…⁠

The historic villa contains 70 rooms filled with fine decorative art, furnishings and antiques sourced by Deering on his European travels… Fun fact: Deering purchased some ceramics which were to be shipped back to the US on the Titanic however they never made it; fortunately he took out an insurance policy on the pieces and was able to have them replaced…⁠

The site was, in 2008, designated by the National Trust for Historic Preservation as one of America’s Eleven Most Endangered Sites due to the threat of encroaching high-rise condo development; since then, thankfully, development has been blocked and Vizcaya is now in its own zoning code to ensure future protection"… @vizcaya_museum⁠

If there’s a space in the Neues Palais that fuses Rococo finesse, princely privacy, and technical virtuosity, it’s the Tassenkopf Cabinet, the oval cabinet located at the far end of the Lower-Prince’s Apartment—a suite intended for the personal use of a high-ranking royal, most likely for small, informal gatherings.⁠

The walls are covered in golden boiserie—not stucco, but finely carved wood—where asymmetrical rocaille scrolls and shell-like forms rise organically from the panel base, evoking the sensation of water caught in motion. The carving is deliberate, fluid, and unbroken, guiding the eye upward through a framework of open latticework.⁠

Within this gilded structure, a delicate array of hand-painted floral motifs brings texture and colour: tiny blossoms, leaves and tendrils painted directly onto the wood panels, with no two arrangements alike. This is not repetition, but a painterly rhythm composed across the architecture itself.⁠
