An elegant antique carved oak magazine rack dating from around 1900, beautifully decorated with deeply carved Art Nouveau stylised flowers, leaves and scrolling stems with an arched cut-out at the base. Constructed in solid quarter-sawn oak, the X-frame design provides a practical stand for books, magazines or music scores. Both panels are richly ornamented with hand-carved scrolling vines and stylised flowers, displaying excellent depth and craftsmanship. The warm oak has developed a lovely patina over more than a century, highlighting the natural figure of the timber. A handsome decorative and functional piece, likely from England but also Belgium or Northern France as there were Belgian and French workshops around Brussels and Lille which produced many beautifully carved oak decorative pieces around 1900).
