A striking and highly collectible pair of double-light table lamps designed by renowned Belgian artist Georges Mathias for Designo Maho, dating from around 1970. Each sculptural lamp features a hand-engraved, limited-edition brass panel set within a gold-plated frame and backed with black Lucite. The first lamp depicts an intricately etched owl motif, numbered 23/125, while the second features a stylised flying bird silhouetted against the sun, numbered 14/250. The two lamps are particularly appealing as a pair, while their individual designs and differing edition numbers make each piece distinctive. The gold-plated frame of the bird-and-sun lamp shows more wear consistent with age (so looks more chrome).Both lamps have been rewired to NZ standards and feature height-adjustable fittings. They are complemented by bespoke shades made by Eunice Taylor, beautifully proportioned to the original designs.
