A pair of French antique fauteuils, dating to the early 19th century, c.1820, in the Louis XVI taste. Each chair features a classic oval medallion back, a hallmark of the period, framed by finely carved beechwood with subtle floral and ribbon detailing to the crest and apron. The gently curved open arms are supported by fluted uprights with carved rosette terminals, leading down to elegant, tapering legs with traditional fluting—elements strongly associated with neoclassical design. The frames retain a warm, naturally aged patina that enhances the depth of the carving and speaks to their age. The seats and backs are currently upholstered in a clean, neutral fabric, which is serviceable but could easily be replaced to suit a more decorative or contemporary scheme. The generous seat proportions and solid construction make them both comfortable and practical occasional chairs. Some restoration to the frame finish required.
