Pair of 20th century bronze statues Mercure, signed J. De Bologne

Made after models by the High-Renaissance sculptor Giambologna (Italian, 1529 - 1608), these beautifully sculpted, finely chased, bronze sculptures depict the Gods Mercury (i.e. Hermes), the messenger of men and immortals, and Venus (i.e. Aphrodite), the goddess of love.

The nude figures are standing on the mouth of a cherub. The circular black marble plinths are decorated with cherubs undertaking various pursuits.
The figure shows high similarity to the sculpture of Giovanni da Bologna, but mercury is shown here as god of trade, with a money bag. a few small chips to the base.
These are very difficult to date but my opinion is that they are models cast in the past fifty years.
some minor nibbles to the bases of both statues.
